Recap of the JCGS Meeting for July 8th, 2021

Dear guitar fans,

We had a wonderful evening of guitar music and camaraderie on Thursday, July 8 at Paschal Winery. We were indoors in the tasting room, where we will likely continue to be with Covid restrictions lifted. There were around 35 people in attendance. The meeting was held in Hank Levin’s honor, and there were several sweet tributes to him.

John Swinnerton – Flight (original), dedicated to Hank

Steve Bismarck – Moonrise by Jubin Kristianto

Francesco Palmer – Inwards & Sideways (original)

Norm Fletcher – God Bless The Child by Billie Holiday, Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans by Louis Armstrong

Brian Parris – Riverboat Song by J.J. Kale, You Belong To Me by Chilton Price

On August 4, flamenco dancer Savannah Fuentes and guitarist/singer Diego Amador will perform at Grizzly Peak Winery’s Event Center in Ashland at 7:30pm. Tickets are available here. They recently played a house concert in Eagle Point and brought the house down! Diego in particular is a phenomenon. Highly recommended.

Grant Ruiz will perform at Paschal’s Happy Hour this Sunday, July 18 from 3:30-5:30pm with special guest Mark Everson. He will also play guitar duets with Dan Fellman on Sunday, July 25 from 5-7pm and on Thursday, July 29, also from 5-7pm.

During the meeting we were joined for the first time by Derek Keller and Bernadette Mondok. Dr. Keller is a new music professor at SOU teaching music industry and production classes, and he also happens to be an excellent guitarist and singer. Ms. Mondok is a wonderful soprano. You can see them both in action on YouTube, e.g.,

David Russell recently played a recital in the monastery of Celanova, Spain, playing the 1st Lute Suite, BWV 996 by J.S. Bach. You can watch it at It’s extraordinary and well worth the watch.

The guitar society has scheduled a concert with guitarist Jiji Kim ( on Nov. 14. Time and place are TBA. Watch this space.
