Only Hope: My Mother and the Holocaust Brought to Light

Only Hope: My Mother and the Holocaust Brought to Light

Before she passed away in 1974, Felicia Bornstein Lubliner wrote about her internment in ghettos and concentration camps (Auschwitz and Gross-Rosen) in Nazi-occupied Poland. Her powerful stories have been published by her son, Irving Lubliner, who also contributed the foreword and afterword to Only Hope: A Survivor’s Stories of the Holocaust. He will share excerpts, shedding light on his mother’s experiences and indomitable spirit, as well as his own experience as a child of Holocaust survivors. He will pause during and after his presentation to invite questions and discussion.

Irving Lubliner is a professor emeritus at Southern Oregon University (SOU), where his specialty was mathematics education. During his 40-year career, he taught at all levels, kindergarten through graduate school, led seminars for teachers in 39 states, and gave over 350 conference presentations, including several keynote addresses. Since retiring in 2014, he has taught math, music, and literature classes for OLLI at SOU, where he also served on the Council of Directors. In 2019, he created Felabra Press and published his mother’s writings about her experiences during the Holocaust, the book that will serve as the theme for this presentation.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day is marked each year on January 27th.
